Transcript: “I want to share some important information about how the federal government shutdown is affecting CalFresh benefits here in California.

As of right now, the federal government is shut down. Until President Trump and Congress reopen the government, millions of Californians who receive CalFresh benefits may be impacted.

The federal government has not provided additional funding for CalFresh. Funding is available for the month of October, but CalFresh benefits will likely be delayed in November.

You can still use your EBT card as usual with your existing balance during the shutdown. If anything changes, updates will be shared as soon as possible.

If you want to apply for new CalFresh benefits in November, you still can.
You can apply online at www.benefitscal.com, by phone at 1-877-847-3663 , or in person at your local county social services office.

Again, that’s www.benefitscal.com for more information.

Because of the federal government’s shutdown and the lack of new funding, please know that your benefits may be delayed.

Now, for those who receive CalWORKs or Medi-Cal, those benefits are secure- so you don’t need to worry about interruptions there.

If you need food assistance, you can contact your local 211 or visit cafoodbanks.org to find a nearby food bank.

For people receiving SSI, SSDI, or retirement benefits, you will not be impacted. You will continue to receive your benefits as usual.

If you have any questions or need help, please reach out to your local Deaf Services agency — they can assist you.”
