Advocacy

GLAD ensures that deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deaf disabled consumers have equal access to the same opportunities as their hearing counterparts. Advocates address violations of the law through education, filing complaints, and attorney referrals. Consumers may set up an appointment with an advocate for help with discrimination.

Discrimination

By law, deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deaf disabled people may request accommodations in schools, workplaces, courthouses, prisons, businesses, and more. If you did not receive accommodations, contact GLAD to set up an appointment with an advocate.

Educating Businesses

Government agencies, businesses, and non-profit organizations can learn about laws protecting deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deaf disabled consumers. GLAD provides information, workshops, and other consultation as a public service.

Legislation

GLAD advocates for laws that improve the quality of life for deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deaf disabled consumers. Its many accomplishments include California’s Deaf Access Program and closed captioning. Consumers can help GLAD by contacting their law makers.
