Communication Assistance

GLAD provides many communication services for consumers and agencies. Advocates can translate documents to sign language. Consumers can use equipment in the Visual Communication Center for free. Sign language interpreters are available. Emergency sign language interpreting services are also available 24/7 through LIFESIGNS.

Translate Documents

GLAD can translate complicated documents into sign language. Translation services are available in English, Spanish, and American Sign Language (ASL).

Visual Communication Center

Equipment is available to use for free at GLAD’s Visual Communication Center (VCC). The VCC is open during business hours. The VCC has TTY devices, caption phones, and videophones. Consumers can learn how to use equipment from a Community Advocate. Community Advocates can also help apply for free equipment. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the VCC is closed to the public until further notice.

Interpreting Services

The Americans with Disabilities Act requires government agencies, businesses, and public nonprofit organizations to provide accommodations to deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deaf disabled people. Sign language interpreting services are available through LIFESIGNS, a subsidiary of GLAD.
