Pathway to Success

The mission of the Pathway to Success Program of Greater Los Angeles Agency of Deafness (GLAD) are to educate, enrich and empower deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind and deaf disabled adult learners through the utilization of bilingual teaching concept and with an emphasis on American Sign Language and English in a multicultural and linguistically rich environment. The objective is to get adult learners in developing the necessary skills to become active participants in the community and workforce.

 

Language Employment and Assessment Development (LEAD)

Language and employment comprehensive trainings and services offered by GLAD to deaf and hard of hearing individuals with employment preparation through language & communication and vocational assessment and trainings. Services may be provided individually or in groups setting based on consumer’s need.  Individual Service Plan (ISP) will be administered to deliver services with specific measurable objectives, methods, timeframes and techniques to achieve goals.

The LEAD curriculum as an addendum item, offers four components that develop and enhance communication and language skills and employment preparation. Pertinent curriculum and materials will be available for the trainings covering these four components.  At the end of the program, consumers will be able to:

  • Group A: Communication Literacy
  • Pre-literacy: Develop and demonstrate basic ASL skills and basic writing skills to communicate effectively at work, peers, coworkers and employers.
  • Language & Development: gain better understanding to etiquette communication at the workplace.
  • Group B: Employment Preparation
  • Employment Preparation: Demonstrate appropriate worksite behaviors and develop an understanding of employer expectations including but not limited to work culture and what kind of attire to wear to work.
  • Employment: Learn how to identify and seek employment opportunities; complete employment applications and resumes; participate in mock job interviews; understand work schedules; develop environmental awareness.

GLAD will have a process for ongoing reporting system that collects, analyzes and prepares reports on the performance outcomes of services provided. The report will include consumer progress identifying the activities provided towards the achievement of the ISP objectives.   Reports will be sent directly to RCDs and invoices are billed to DOR monthly.
