📢 Community Announcement from GLAD introducing Counseling Services

Transcript:
Junko: Hello everyone my name is Junko. I am a Mental Health Program Coordinator at GLAD. I am excited to announce for those of you who are residents of Los Angeles County. GLAD is starting counseling services in ASL. Who are the counselors?

Demara: Hi, my name is Demara. I am a counselor at GLAD focusing on mental health. I focus on families, children, and domestic violence survivors. My job is to help families by improving the quality of life by developing better coping skills, patience, and teaching you how to better advocate for yourself. With these skills you will be much improved from an emotional standpoint. I will provide safe space for individuals and families and ensure you feel supported so the families can heal, grow, and thrive together.

Our counseling services are for the entire deaf community including Deaf, Deafblind, Hard of Hearing, and Deafplus. Our program is for deaf* people who have experienced access barrier getting mental health services where the mental health counselor who is familiar with their language and culture is deprived. Now, GLAD is providing full accessibility to all deaf* individuals regardless of if you know American Sign Language (ASL) or not. We can accommodate your communication needs. Our services are available in person, via video phone/VP, and Zoom meetings. Contact us to make an appointment.

Dr. Tomas: Hello, my name is Dr. Thomas Garcia. I have a PhD in psychology and soon I’ll be a licensed psychologist. My three current areas of expertise are: prevention, education, and intervention plus different kinds of therapies. Our counseling services are free up to 12 sessions. Health Insurances isn’t required. Our services are focused on prevention such as mental health concerns, challenges becoming and increasing getting worse by prevention and reducing the level of severity.

If you need more intensive counseling or psychological support, we will refer you to an outside agency that is best fit for you and your needs.

Junko: How to sign up? It is quite a simple and easy process. You can call us using VP, email, or go to GLAD website and fill out the online form. Use your phone to scan a QR code. Thank you for watching and looking forward to seeing you soon. Goodbye!
