AJ: A consumer reached out to GLAD for assistance. Her late husband was the one who took care of everything, including the mortgage, home insurance, and property tax. Her husband passed away in the last year. The wife became overwhelmed with the mortgage lender, home insurance, property tax, and didn’t know what to do. A GLAD Advocate showed Consumer how to inform all the programs that her late husband had passed, so she could take over the title. The Advocate also taught her how to pay mortgage, home insurance, and property tax. Consumer realized that with only her Social Security, she couldn’t afford the home. Her lender served Consumer a notice to inform that her house would be foreclosured, and sold. GLAD Advocate found and connected her with a lawyer to help save her house. The lawyer filed Bankruptcy Chapter 13 to rescue Consumer’s house. Relieved, the Consumer thanked our Advocate for finding her a lawyer. JUNKO: A family had a hard of hearing baby who was a few months old. The parents wanted the baby to learn American Sign Language (ASL), so they reached out to GLAD. The family started sessions with our Deaf Coach, meeting regularly. The baby started signing, without delay of communication or language growth. At the same time, the parents learned ASL too. Now the child is almost 2 years old, and the parents are relieved to see that their child gets a language, and is even superseding all of their language milestones.
