Hearing parent of a 13-year old deaf teenager

I attended a GLAD parent workshop in the spring and became aware, for the first time, that I could make a difference in the life of my daughter through effective communication. With the new skills, I was able to encourage the development of self-esteem in my daughter and to teach her the basics of sex education, puberty and family values.

A late deafened male, unable to gain employment for over eight years despite marketable skills

A man came into our Employment Development Department office and worked with a Job Placement Coordinator to polish up his resume and cover letter. He then submitted applications to our network of employers. Our Coordinator worked with him in practicing for job interviews and provided interpreters for interviews. He got a job at a major nationwide telecommunications company, and our Coordinator worked with the employer by providing communication access workshops for their staff.

Thank you for getting our daughter into the program, without your help she would have such a different life. Now, the possibilities are infinite.

Late deafened consumer

You have given me more information in one day than I have been able to get in the last 3 months. Thank you.

Deaf consumer

I struggle with communicating (with hearing health providers). I saw GLAD’s case manager. He explained about high blood pressure and the medicine – now my blood pressure is down and my headache is gone.
