Employment Services

GLAD-EDD employment specialists work with deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind individuals searching for jobs. GLAD-EDD staff provide training, resume feedback, mock interviews and provide interpreters for interviews.

LifeSigns, an interpreter referral agency, is a non-profit California corporation providing communication access to the deaf, hard of hearing, deaf blind and hearing communities using certified interpreters.

I attended a GLAD parent workshop in the spring and became aware, for the first time, that I could make a difference in the life of my daughter through effective communication. With the new skills, I was able to encourage the development of self-esteem in my daughter and to teach her the basics of sex education, puberty and family values.

Our Health Care Access Case manager offered a number of communication options. With enhanced communication abilities, he received the full spectrum of treatment options and made an informed decision. Today, his cancer is in remission.

A man came into our Employment Development Department office and worked with a Job Placement Coordinator to polish up his resume and cover letter. He then submitted applications to our network of employers. Our Coordinator worked with him in practicing for job interviews and provided interpreters for interviews. He got a job at a major nationwide telecommunications company, and our Coordinator worked with the employer by providing communication access workshops for their staff.
